I fucked up. I mean, it wasn't really a mistake I could have known any better about, but still. So, I planned to make today a shortish day, and had a park I thought might be a campground picked out as a destination. I do manage to wake up early, and have breakfast at the motel, but then when I get back to my room I lie down for another 1.5 hours. To be fair, I needed it, so I can't really fault myself for that one. Anyway, the way out was not too bad. Rt 7 was pretty hellish, it was a 45mph 5 lane road with basically no shoulder. Rt 5 on the other hand, was a bike route and had a shoulder a mile wide. So I get to the spot I think might be a campground, and of course it isn't. I'm getting much better at spotting campgrounds on the map, and I had a strong suspicion this would not be one, but I went there anyway. So yeah, I ask some locals and there are a couple motels around, and a real campground 12 miles away. I know I'll be really annoyed with myself if I stay in another motel, so I keep going towards the campground. Of course, on the way there, it starts to rain. By the time I get to the campground, I'm tired, grouchy, and really wet. I should have just stayed in the motels. Its pissing rain out, and I'm sitting in my tent too tired to deal with showering or the like. And I have no way of drying my clothes. Also, the campsite was $17, so I saved even less that I could have. At least one of the morals of this is that if the forcast says rain, it might be better to stay in a motel. I'm not really sure what the others are though. I really hope that this night doesn't somehow damage my equiptment (the bike is out in the pissing rain right now) or make tomorrow suck too much. I still haven't called my host in Syracuse, because it is too wet out to go to the pay phone. I'll try and call tomorrow morning. Oh, and my tent seems to have a few leaks in it. Not big ones, but if it is going to keep pissing rain, I'll bet they get annoying. I think I'll just try to sleep and hope I get up early. There isn't much better to do.
