Day 09: Clarence, NY to Westfield, NY Total Distance: 81.8 mi Moving Avg: 10.4 mpg Moving Time: 7:53 Climbing: 1300 ft Elev Gain: -85 ft Route Summary: NY 5 W to US 20 W to NY 5 W and Lakeshore Rd Well, I was planning on riding through the night (well, I would have gotten there at about 3am) and getting to Erie, then taking a rest day. But I discovered that riding at night really isn't any fun. It makes me all paranoid and jumpy. So I stopped in Westfield. I need to get a new light, the halogen I'm using for seeing at night just isn't very good at all. The LED one I'm using as a blinker is brighter and runs longer, so I think I'll just get a new 5 LED one to see with. Not that I expect to be doing too much riding at night, but it would be nice to feel a bit safer when doing it. Since tomorrow is supposed to rain, I may just take the rest day here. It depends on whats in town. If I can find an internet cafe in town. The phone book has some ISPs that have offices in town, so maybe I can convice them to give me some bandwidth. Or maybe I can use the library. Today started out pretty slow. I got up late (duh), then stopped early for lunch at Applebees. It was my first time eating there, and my verdict is "meh". It was rather pricey, and not really that good. Then later in the day I got my first flat. Fun and exciting. It wasn't really patchable, so I used a spare tube. I should try and find a bike store to replace the spare. It's the rear tire, so I have another spare, so it isn't totally urgent, but I should do it anyway. I think part of the reason I wanted to press on so much today was the fact that I spent so much time stopped. By the time it was about 6 pm, I'd only spent 4 hours actually moving, so I had lots of energy left.
