Day 11: Westfield, NY to Conneaut, OH Total Distance: 65.1 mi Moving Avg: 11.2 mph Moving Time: 5:48 Climbing: 1800 ft Elev: -30 ft Route Summary: NY 5 W to PA 5 W to US 20 W to OH 7 S Today was the day of flat tires. I got another flat in the exact same place as the first about 1hr into toady. Careful inspection of the tire showed it was kinda fucked up about there, so I changed to the spare. When I got into Erie, I asked a bunch of people (mostly people on bikes) where a decent bike shop was. The most consistant answer I got was 26th and Peach, so I went there. It turned out to be a little BMX bike shop that sold no road or mountain bike stuff. They had basically nothing. I bought a tube from them though and got a recommendation of a better bike store, which I then went to. The better bike store was acutally a pretty darn good bike store. I got everything I needed and then some. The stocked Rans recumbents, so they had lots of small tires. I got a better tire for the BOB and a better spare front tire, along with a new rear tire to replace the fubared one. Oh, and I got a new headlight (5 LED), and a can of Halt. The only thing they didn't have was a small thing of degreaser. Anyway, after a tasty (not) lunch at the KFC next door, I speed off only to find my rear tire flat AGAIN. I suspect the spare tire I used was bad, having already been punctured multiple times (I thought I patched them all though). Anyway, I went back to the bike store and got a new spare tire, and actually put on the new rear tire. All in all, I bought four tires today! Hopefully they will last the entire trip. I did manage to get through all of PA today. There was a Days Inn right about where I wanted to stop, but they were asking $70/night. No way! But luckily I spotted a sign for a campground just .5mi away. I went there, and got a spot. Much cheaper, and really not all that bad. As long as it isn't raining, campgrounds are OK. My tent, however, was still quite wet from the last time I camped. Hopefully tonight it will get a chance to dry out. I sucessfully contacted Josh, and it looks good for staying with him tomorrow. Yay. But neither Jen nor my parents were home. One advantage of campgrounds is that there is no TV to suck my time (hence the longer than average journal entry). But now off to Linux-land to deal with the website stuff, so I'll be ready for bandwidth tomorrow.
