Day 17: Vandalia, OH to Centerville, IN Total Distance: 43.9 mi Moving Avg: 7.7 mph Moving Time: 5:43 Climbing: 1250 ft Elev: 0 ft Route Summary: US 40 W Well, today sucked. Hard. It started with headwinds. Really strong headwinds. Worse than yesterday even, I'd guess about 10 to 20 mph. They slowed me to a crawl. I spend pretty much the entire morning in the first chainring. No chance of making Champaign in three days. It will take four. Then, I heard on the radio that the whole area is under "severe thunderstorm watch". Uh oh. Sure enough, in the early afternoon I start to feel a few drops of rain. By the time I've stopped to get out the rain gear, it starts pouring. As a side note, bringing the paneers as well as the trailer was a really good call, as I can have rain gear, tools, and food easily accessible. So yeah, I got wet. Oh yeah, and I made it out of Ohio into Indiana. Not only is it a new state, it is also a new timezone! w00t. This gives me a slightly better chance at dayshifting. While the roads in IN so far are better than OH, the drivers are just as obnoxious. Not that I have a very large sample set, and the conditions were not exactly great, but they certainly didn't seem friendly.
