Day 22: Urbana, IL to Springfield, IL Total Distance: 89.0 mi Moving Avg: 11.5 mph Moving Time: 7:44 Climbing: 1600 ft Elev Gain: -200 ft Route Summary: IL 10 W to IL 54 W Well, I rather botched my sleeping arrignments tonight. I made really really good time today, I think in part due to the rest day, but also partly due to moderate tail winds in the morning and early afternoon (and lack of headwinds in the late afternoon). I previously thought I would make Jacksonville in 2 days, so I called my contact there. But now, Jacksonville is too close to be worth stopping at, so I had to call back and cancel. And, I didn't call the person in Springfield, since I didn't think I'd be stopping here. So I get no one. Furthermore, I was feeling thrifty and saw a sign for camping. So I'm at a really not very nice campground. The showers sucked so much (only one temperature, and it wasn't hot, and a concrete floor) I only got minimally clean. And there are lots of insects. Fortunatly, I'm in my fortress (er, tent) and they can't eat their way through (I should really not be saying this until morning). After talking to my parents and being told to stay in motels more, it does feel a bit silly to be here, but whatever. If I stay in motels too much, it just doesn't feel quite as much like an adventure. I need to remind myself occasionaly that I really am in the middle of the country. Somehow, camping helps. Oh, and there is a train going past now. I didn't know I was near train tracks, but now I do. But the sleeping arraingments don't dimish the fact I set a new record today. Go me. Hopefully I can keep this (or at least, similar) type of performance up. I don't even feel especially drained. Oh yeah, and I'm now more than a third of the way there! W00t!
