Day 25: Ewing, MO to Macon, MO Total Distance: 59.4 mi Moving Avg: 8.5 mpg Moving Time: 7:00 Climbing: 2700 ft Elev: 200 ft Route Summary: MO 156 W to MO 151 S to MO H S to MO K W to MO 151 S to US 36 W I actually got a decently early start today, for once. The hills and pretty stiff headwinds made it a pretty slow day. Up and headwinds are both on my list of unacceptable things. I think headwinds might actually be first against the wall when the revolution comes, but up will be a close second. You'll note it was a fairly short day, even though I started early. I got to Macon at around 5pm, and usually I would have wanted to go on, however maps and locals both indicated that there would be nowhere to stay for another 30 miles. Not a chance. Today was perhaps the hottest day so far. It was really really hot. I'm sure I'll have hotter to come, but not by that much. I almost ran out of water in the morning, since I was on country back roads and there were no gas stations or the like. The one place I might have been able to buy water was closed, since it is the 4th of July. If I actually got desperate, I'm sure I could have stopped at a farm house and asked for some water, but fortunatly I made it to a small town (pop 66) that had a couple of vending machines. I went through about 2.2 gallons of fluids during the course of the day. And almost all of that came out as sweat, not urine. Looking at the map, it seems the next few days are going to be pretty hilly. Suck. Suck suck suck. THE MIDWEST IS SUPPOSED TO BE FLAT!
