Day 39: Pueblo, CO. Rest Day Well, thats it. The laptop is dead. Long live bling! This makes me very very sad. I mean, I'm pretty sure I'll manage, people did bike across the country before laptops, and none of the cyclists I've met have had them, but it really will cramp my style. First off, I have to write my journals by hand, something I haven't done in a long long time. Second, I won't be able to upload GPS logs or photos. I have a decent bit of space on the flash card, so I might be ok for photos, I can always buy disposables and scan the photos later. GPS-wise, eit. But the biggest loss will be the mapping software. Huge eit. Of course, I can buy paper maps, but they won't have elevation data and auto-routing. Nor will they be able to program the GPS. Or, I could follow the ACA route, but I'd already basically decided against that, for a number of reasons. On the plus side, it will mean my load will be lighter. I called Apple and talked about alternatives. It seems the best thing would be to ship it to my parents, have them bring it to the Apple Store, then ship it to where I'll be in a few days. Of course, if I really don't miss it, maybe I'll just have them keep it. Otherwise today was a pretty relaxed day. I got up super late and mailed 3.5 lbs of crap home. Not as much as I hoped, but oh well. I also go new brake pads for my rear wheel, which I installed. Yay for rear brakes. I bought a can of Clean Streak by White Lightning. That stuff is amazing! As advertised, the dirt really does just melt off. And finally I went to the library to check my email. I ran into Brandon there and we exchanged best wishes. Tomorrow I set off for up. I don't like up, but at least I know it will be over in a few days and I get some down.
