Day 43: Gunnison, CO to Montrose, CO Total Distance: 64.8 mi Moving Avg: 9.3 mph Moving Time: 6:57 Today was a long hard day due to heavy headwinds. I started late because I had my wheel trued in Gunnison, which was good because it let me adjust my rear brakes properly. The morning was seriously beautiful. Amazing sights in every direction. I just couldn't stop taking pictures. The afternoon was a lot nasty climbing. But I was rewarded with some great downhills. Having dealt with the rear brakes helped my confidence a lot, so I was able to go much faster downhill. Now is my last chance to take the ACA route south. I'm almost positive I'm gonna go north though. I can't think of anything that would change my mind. By Cimarron, I was pretty tired, and I considered stopping there. But I looked at the map and it was only 1000' up, so I went for it. The amazing part was the "only 1000'." 43 days ago I would NOT have said that. And it really wasn't that bad at all. Go me.
